Russia Detects Gamma Strain of Coronavirus

According to the Interfax news agency, the Gamma mutation of the novel coronavirus, which was originally discovered in Brazil, has been spotted in modest numbers in Russia, according to the inventor of Russia’s EpiVacCorona vaccine.
Authorities in Russia are reporting an increase in coronavirus infections, which they attribute to the Delta strain and a poor vaccination rate. In the previous 24 hours, Russia reported 24,471 new COVID-19 cases and 796 coronavirus-related fatalities.

The Vector Institute in Siberia produced EpiVacCorona, Russia’s second of four vaccinations to be approved. Russia’s flagship vaccination is Sputnik V, Reuters reports.
