Among the group of frontrunners, Amazon is lapping all of the Big Tech companies many times over.In 2022, Amazon bought 10.9 gigawatts of clean power, making it the largest corporate buyer of renewable power in the world, according to data from the market research company BloombergNEF. That’s enough energy to power the entire country of Ecuador.It’s also more than four times the amount of clean energy that the second-largest purchaser of clean power, Facebook parent company Meta, bought in 2022. Google, Microsoft, and Codelco, a Chilean state-owned copper mining company, rounded out the top five.In 2019, Amazon announced The Climate Pledge, making a public commitment for the entire business to be net zero carbon by 2040.
