The system only accesses data that the user is authorized to see, and remains within secure service boundaries. For example, leaders commonly report that AI decision support increases speed, confidence, and the degree to which decisions are grounded in available data. This matches survey findings: a SAP study reports 44% of C-level execs would even override a planned decision based on AI insights, and 52% trust AI most to analyze data and make recommendations. Key best practices include: ensuring cross-department collaboration (IT, security, HR, legal and business owners), establishing clear use-case review processes, and iterating with user feedback. Many organizations also assign an AI governance team or center of excellence. As one project leader noted, approaching Copilot “solely as an IT project” would fail; it requires business input to define the real needs.

Over the next 1–3 years, we expect two trends: deepening integration and widening adoption. Growth projections underline this trajectory: industry analysts estimate the AI assistant market will explode from roughly $3.3 billion today to over $21 billion by 2030, as described in market research from MarketsandMarkets, driven by enterprise giants embedding AI into their suites and startups targeting niche executive tasks.

Surveys show accelerating enterprise adoption. Forrester-like studies find the share of companies with “meaningful” AI deployments climbing steadily: Bain reports 59% had scaled GenAI pilots into production by late 2025 (up sharply from near zero a few years prior). At the same time, satisfaction among these adopters is high. Bain found 80% of generative AI initiatives meet or beat expectations, and many report actual business impact. This suggests we are moving past the “pilot purgatory” stage noted in early 2024.

On the technology side, models will keep improving (new generations of LLMs, larger context windows, multimodal abilities).   • Data readiness: Ensure underlying data is reliable and accessible. As SAP’s AI chief notes, copilot success depends on a “common semantic data layer” across the business. Executives should audit data quality and invest in integration (breaking silos) so that the copilot has a single source of truth. Data privacy and IP considerations also belong in this review – for instance, deciding which datasets (customer info, trade secrets) the copilot may use.
  • Technology sourcing: Decide whether to build on existing platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365 Copilot, Salesforce Einstein) or custom-develop agents. Vendors now offer copilot features embedded in enterprise software, which can speed adoption.
