About

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. is a family owned, private restaurant company founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy. Chick-fil-A is absolutely devoted to serving the local communities where its franchises are, and is known for its original chicken sandwich. Chick-fil-A serves freshly prepared food in more than 2,500 restaurants, today customers eat at Chick-fil-A inside airports, malls, college campuses, and nestled among the thousands of busy streets connecting neighborhoods in 47 states, Washington D.C. and Canada

Our founder made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia. Having worked seven days a week in restaurants open 24 hours, Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose, a tradition that we still keep today.
