Dr Arunava Datta is a consultant neuropsychiatrist practicing in the town of Siliguri. Having done his MBBS, Dr Arunava Datta was fascinated by the the workings of the mind and the brain. This spurred him to do his Junior residency in Neurology from IHBAS, Delhi where his interests further increased. In pursuit of further training and specialisation, he commenced his MD in Neuropsychiatry from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati.
During his time as a postgraduate student, Dr Arunava Datta became the first psychiatry resident to receive a financial grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India to conduct research on “The Neuropsychiatric manifestations of dementia in NorthEastern India”. Upon completion of his MD, he proceeded to do his senior residency from NEIGRIHMS.He has several academic papers on anxiety disorder, dementia and culture bound syndromes to his name.
Dr Arunava Datta has also been involved in research into anxiety spectrum disorders, depression and substance use disorders. He has received special trained by the Government of India in the newer modalities of treatment of addiction disorders in March, 2015.
He is one of the few Psychiatrists who have been specifically trained in Non Invasive Brain Stimulation techniques in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, where he has learnt to use modern stimulation techniques like Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and newer Electroconvulsive therapy modalities.
