Drill Surgeries Ltd. is a research and development startup based in the UK developing the next generation of medical devices powered by augmented reality and tracking algorithms to reduce radiation, operating time and costs during orthopaedic surgeries at hospitals worldwide.
Our medical devices are designed to guide surgeons during Intramedullary Nailing Surgeries, aimed at assisting the welding of broken bones and performed over 1.6 million times per year.
For this operation, surgeons use guesswork by shooting a large number of X-rays to identify the broken part of the bone that they need to operate on.
X-rays only provide 2D images, making the operation lengthy and not too accurate which generates risks.
Whereas large multinational competitors rely on mechanical guides that become inaccurate after their first use (as addressed by 93% of surgeons interviewed), our solution is a custom medical device powered by augmented reality and tracking algorithms that eliminates the guesswork and guides surgeons during the operation without the need for radiation.
This device shows potential to reduce radiation, operating time and costs derived from hospitals.
