Primary Treatment
When addressing a cancer diagnosis, we begin with a primary treatment – a surgery or other procedure to remove a tumor or chemotherapy or radiation to eradicate the source of cancer. Adjuvant therapy is often offered to the patient following primary therapy and consists of follow-up treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, and more, all meant to continue to distinguish the cancer cells that may still remain – or continue to grow- following the removal of the initial cancer.
